Embossing tecniques

Hi again!
This blog post is very long, so find yourself a cup of tea or coffe and
 enjoy this articel about embossing.
Embossing and debossing are the processes of creating either raised or recessed relief images and designs in paper and other materials. An embossed pattern is raised against the background, while a debossed pattern is sunken into the surface of the material.

Dry embossing.

Regular dry emossing with embossing folder from Tim Holtz

Dry embossing with folder and ink

I have added a video to show you how.

How to make your on embossing plates

Heat Embossing

You can use any stamp, although it’s easier to get a clean embossed image
using a stamp with bold, clear lines.
What you’ll need: Paper, stamp, embossing powder, ink pad and heat gun.

Embossing powder comes in all colors and types.
Versamark ink pad
Heat gun

Paper

You can emboss on pretty much any kind of paper: Cardstock, patterned paper, glossy paper or specialty paper. The heavier the paper weight, the less likely the paper will curl up when heated. Vellum can be embossed; as with lighter papers, you’ll want to place it between some books to flatten it out after embossing.

A juicy ink pad

You need the embossing powder to stick to the inked image before heating it,
so you’ll want an ink pad that dries slowly.
If you stamp with a colored ink, your embossed image will still be the color of your embossing powder—not the color of the ink you used. Using different color inks can enhance the color of an embossed.
 Instruction
  1. Ink the stamp with your embossing ink pad and stamp on your paper.
  2. Immediately pour embossing powder on the image. Make sure you cover the entire image.
  3. Shake the excess powder onto a piece of scrap paper. I usually tap the edge of the paper against the table to make sure I’ve removed any stray powder. A small dry paintbrush or cotton swab is perfect for removing stray powder too.
  4. Gently roll the scrap paper into a funnel and pour the embossing powder back into the bottle.
  5. Place the paper on your heat-resistant surface or hold it with tweezers so you don’t burn your fingers. I like to warm up my embossing gun for a minute before using it.
  6. Hold the embossing gun about 6” away from the image. Sweep the gun over the image, taking care not to direct it in one area for too long. You’ll see the change—as the embossing powder melts, it will become smooth and dimensional. Be careful not to overheat, otherwise the powder will bubble and the paper could burn.
  7. That’s it! You’re done. Now that you’ve mastered the basics, you can experiment with different papers, effects and techniques.

I have had so much fun with stuff from Korthobby.no, Paint, cameo, butterfly, frame and corners are all from them

Korthobby now has this wonderful thin metal pieces that you can use with embossingdie from Sizzix. In the shop you can also find many other shapes and die in the store. The one I have used is called Lily Damask.

After embossing I have painted it all with MetaMica Paint that you also will find with Korthobby.no

I have made a winter card. This is quite an easy card. Papers are from Panduro. The Ribbon is an old Ribbon from Martha Stewart, from Hobbykunst. The roses are Mathia roses, also from Hobbykunst. The diecut "Winter Wishes" is a free cutting file from Bird Cards. Te diecut leaves is a Silhouette file.

I have used dry embossing to create the effect in the Kraft paper. I used a - Sizzix - Tim Holtz Alterations - Diamond Plate Embossing Folder. I also distressed the raised pattern with distress ink, to create an extra effect in the pattern.

Crafting and cardmaking is often quite expensive, because a lot of tools are required. In the beginning it is difficult to invest in everything. For years I embossed with embossing folders and a rolling pin. This works fine for small embossing jobs. I have added a video to show you how.

I have embossed details with utee gold a thicker embossing powdwe. Inside the frame i have dry embossed the background with a embossing folder, the same with the heart.
The flower beside the heart I shaked of most of the emossing powder befor I heated it there for there is only litle aerias that was embossed.

Tok et Prosjekt Life kort 4x 6 inch og delte i to. Runda hjørnene med envelopemaker fra We are memory keepers ( den er genial å bruke til det)

I used some of the small TH embossingfolders to make some small card to use as embellishments on later projects
I took a 4x6 project life card and made two small ones. I just used the Envelopemaker from W are memory keeper to round the corners.

I just embosset the papers in the folders and used some ink to higlight the image. Took some clear embossingpowder over to make it stand more out.

I took some Distress ink- pumpic stone and blended it on the background.
Then I distressed the egdes with embossing ink and used a 2toned embossing powder from Lindys Stampgang to make a frame on the cards.

Så her er to kort klar til bruk på fremtidige prosjekt.

So here it is, two cards ready for use in a project whenever I feel for it.

Thats all for today, I hope you enjoyed the blog post.

Have a nice and creative day.

for å skape litt mere liv i kortet.
gikk over med brun stempelpute for å fremheve embossingen litt..
~
Here I made a birthdaycard,
and on one of the panels I have used a embossingfolder
to create a little more life in the card.
went over with brown ink pad to highlight the embossing a bit ..
